Pucker up your orbicularis!
Beauty tutor Rachel Halling has discovered a novel way of teaching her students about the muscles of the face. She paints them on in bright colours so that the students can appreciate more fully the muscles’ locations and movements.

She explains, “The students are currently learning how to carry out facial massages and it is essential that they understand where the muscles are in the face and what they do. This will enable them to give their clients facial exercises to maintain a youthful appearance. For example, they are learning about the orbicularis oris, which is the muscle surrounding the mouth, used to pucker up when you kiss and the mentalis on the chin, used to depress the lower lip in pouting.”

The students enjoyed the innovative approach and agreed that it made the lesson more memorable
