Foundation Degree (FdSc) - Business Information Technology

This is a University of Bedfordshire Course delivered at Dunstable College.

Description
This course aims to provide students with practical knowledge of the contribution that Information Systems, IT and management systems have in achieving business
objectives.

The course aims to develop understanding of both the technical and management processes in the development of Information Systems with emphasis on business and organisational solutions. It incorporates a two to three month period of work-based learning in the second semester of Year 2.

• Introduction to Systems Modelling
• IT Skill Enhancement
• CIS PPAD
• Practical Systems Development
• Introduction to Data Communications
• Introduction to Databases
• Database Developments
• System Methodologies
• Problem Solving and Logical Reasoning (Level 1)
• IT Systems Building
• Social and Professional Issues in Computing
• Introduction to Object Oriented Programming (Level 1).

Progression
The course prepares students for a career in computing or other related employment. It prepares you for a range of technical and management careers in computing. On successful completion of the course, you can progress to the final year of a computing or IT related degree course at university.

Entry requirements
Applicants will need one of the following qualifications:
National Certificate or Diploma in a computing discipline or related subject, Advanced GNVQ in Computer Studies or Information Technology, At least one A Level pass with GCSE passes at Grade “C” or above in an appropriate Maths or Technology subject. Mature students with appropriate work experience will also be considered.

Assessment
Assessment varies for each unit, but will include case study, practical tasks, projects, assignment and examinations.

Two years, full-time with work-based learning as part of the programme. This course is also offered as a part-time programme.
