Course delivered at Dunstable College.
Description
This course equips you with the skills and knowledge required
for developing computer programs in a commercial environment.
It is widely recognised for those wishing to become computer professionals.
It develops an appreciation of the
need to implement a structured approach to program design, and
the necessary skills. It provides a framework for sound technical
and professional practices and an opportunity to develop both
independent and co-operative work. It incorporates a two to three
month period of work-based learning in the second semester of
Year 2.
Course modules include:
• Introduction to Programming
• Data Communications
• Object Oriented Programming
• Systems Architecture
• Operating Systems
• Comparative Languages.
Progression
The course prepares students for a career in computing or other
related employment. It prepares you for a range of technical and
management careers in computing. On successful completion of the
course, you can progress to the final year of a computing or IT
related degree course at university.
Entry requirements
Applicants will need one of the following qualifications:
National Certificate or Diploma in a computing discipline or related
subject, Advanced GNVQ in Computer Studies or Information Technology,
at least one A Level pass with GCSE passes at Grade “C”
or above in an appropriate Maths or Technology subject. Mature
students with appropriate work experience will also be considered.
Assessment
Assessment varies for each unit, but will include case study,
practical tasks, projects, assignment and examinations.

Two years, full-time with work-based learning as part of the programme.
This course is also offered as a part-time programme.
