CORPORATION BUSINESS

The Corporation believes that its business is open to public scrutiny and operates a Publication Scheme as required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The exceptions are those items of business which are deemed to be confidential as defined within the Instrument of Government, for example the pay and remuneration of an individual, its policy is that the Corporation meetings are open meetings. Whilst entitlement to attend meetings is defined within the Corporation's Standing Orders, members of staff who are not Corporation Members or senior postholders are regularly in attendance at all meetings and other members of staff are invited, particularly where they are presenting particular reports to the Corporation. Papers and minutes of the Corporation are published in accordance with specific arrangements and, with the exception of those items specifically designated as confidential, all papers and minutes are available for public scrutiny as are any documents, regulations, bye-laws, etc of the Corporation. These are available on the College website, the Staff Portal (College intranet), in the Learning Resources Centre, in the Staff Common Room and from the Clerk to the Governors.

The Corporation operates through a number of Committees which deal with the detailed aspects of the Corporation, as follows:

  • Academic Board;
  • Audit Committee;
  • Finance and Resources Committee;
  • Estates Committee;
  • Governors' Standards Committee;
  • Nominations Committee;
  • Remuneration Committee;
  • Special Committee.

All of the Committees operate to approved terms of reference and specified membership. In addition, the College has a comprehensive induction process and a Link Governor initiative for Governors to support and develop them in their role and understanding of the College.

If you would like any further information about the Corporation, its work or the work of its Committees, or if you would like to join the Governing Body, please do not hesitate to contact Sue Young, Clerk to the Governors, at Dunstable College on 01582 476492, email syoung@dunstable.ac.uk.
