wiki = quickly
The Dunstable College Moodle site has moved to a new address. This is now moodle.dunstable.ac.uk so please make a note of this and update your bookmarks, favourites etc.
One of the alternatives to a moodle-type set-up is a wiki. (From the Moari word for quickly, and apt too, as it is possibly one of the fastest ways to get a collaborative on-line presence up and running).
Leading development in the educational field are the folk at pbwiki. Offering free, and ad-free, resources for educational institutions and bags of support to help non-geeks do it right, they have Plain English at the forefront of their activity and their product is well worth trying out.
Unlike traditional VLEs or web pages, a wiki page is a place that you can very easily start adding text, images or whatever to. In pbwiki it is simply a case of clicking the Edit button. There's no pre-ordained structure to restrict you. Users can share resources, limit access and get notified of changes.
A really important feature is how easy it is for students or users to edit pages. So there's real collaboration possibilities from the start.
Some examples of wikis and links to pbwiki are in the menu on this page.
