Childcare Students who have
children and are on a low income or are in receipt of benefits may apply
for money to pay for childcare while they are studying on a full-time
course. Also parents who are aged from 16-18 could be eligible for the
Care to Learn grant which enables them to receive financial assistance
up to £5,000 per year per child. Travel / free transport* If you are under 19, on a full time course and live at least 3 miles away from the College you may be entitled to a bus pass from the Education Authority. Application forms can be collected from Student Services. Most students will be required to contribute to the cost of this bus pass with an upfront payment to the LEA before the bus pass is issued. In some instances you may be refused this pass. You will be informed by post, and given the reason, but don’t throw this letter away! We may still be able to help you, so contact someone from the Student Services Team and bring the letter with you. Students on part-time courses and those who are over 19 may be able to get help for travel costs through the Learner Support Fund. *there have been changes to the regulations affecting the criteria for free transport and we hope to be able to set out the main things you need to know here. In the meantime, our Student Services team will be happy to answer individual queries.
