Formal Interview
Admissions tutors will need to be satisfied as to the commitment and level of attainment of the applicant in all cases. This is particularly important for Art and Design students as there will be a discussion focusing on your portfolio of work.

Conditional and Unconditional Offers
A conditional offer of a place at College, means that you need to achieve certain qualifications and grades to be able to start your course. These will be outlined to you at interview. An unconditional offer of a place, means that you do not need to gain any further qualifications to take your chosen course.

Mature Students
We encourage mature students to apply; while applicants over 21 need not have any formal qualifications, admissions tutors will need to be satisfied as to the commitment and level of attainment of the applicant in all cases.

The Clearing Process
If you do not gain a place, either because you applied late or did not achieve the grades you were hoping for, you may still apply through the clearing process. This system starts in the third week of August and ends in the third week of September with courses usually starting within a few weeks.
The precise dates for clearing vary from year to year and can be found out by visiting www.ucas.ac.uk.

Art and Design courses only
There are two routes for UCAS applications: Route A and Route B. When you are selecting your
course, look at the course code section. If two UCAS course codes are shown, you can choose
between Route A and Route B. If only one UCAS course code is shown, this means you have to
choose Route A.
Route A
Using Route A, you may list up to six choices for simultaneous consideration by the institutions.
Simply list them in the order they appear in the UCAS Directory. Your application form needs to be
received by UCAS between 1 September of the year preceding entry and 15 January of the year of
entry. To allow institutions ample time to review your portfolio, UCAS advises that you apply by mid-
November.
Route B
Using Route B, you may list up to three choices in order of your preference by the institutions. You do
so by completing an interview preference form, indicating your first, second and third choices. UCAS
will forward your application to your first choice institution, which will decide whether to invite you
for an interview and offer you a place. If you are offered a place and accept it, UCAS will cancel your
other applications; if you do not receive an offer, or you turn it down, UCAS will send your
application to your second choice institution, and so on with the third. You need to submit your form
to UCAS by 24 March in the year of entry, but preferably by 7 March to avoid processing delays.
