SCRIPT
The winning team attended Heart 97.6 to work with their creative producers to develop the concept, produce the final advert
and gain
a valuable insight into how a radio station operates.
Claire Booton, Creative Consultant for Global Radio's, Heart 97.6 station, commented, “Advert Idol was all about giving
one lucky team a real insight in to how commercial radio works. All teams were asked to put together a 30 second script that
could be played on air to promote Dunstable College. The winning group would then be invited to the station where they would
meet the breakfast team “Gaz and Babs”, have a tour round the station and watch the whole production process.
As well as writing a well structured advert, the Northfields group went far beyond what had been asked of them. They recorded a demo
of the advert and produced their own music! It was great to meet students who were clearly enthusiastic about the whole project.”
Launched
in January 2009, Ad Idol was a competition for local 13 to 16 year olds to write an advert for Dunstable College
to be broadcast on local radio
station Heart 97.6. The competition was a novel idea by Dunstable College to reinforce the Colleges 'commitment to working with schools
and the wider community. Liz Leeson, Marketing Manager at Dunstable College said of the competition,“We are always seeking new ways to
engage with the community. This competition proved to be a great success and we were pleased to work with Heart 97.6 in offering the winning
team a money can't buy prize!“
The final advert will be aired on Heart 97.6 the week commencing 1st June 2009. Listen in during the Breakfast show and the Drive time show,
Monday to Friday and over the following weekend to hear it!
